LECTURE NOTES

Presentations will be made during the last few weeks of class. Presentations must be at least ten minutes. The paper will be worth fifty points each and your presentation will be worth ten. Students who do not complete their paper or do present their paper to the class will NOT receive a grade higher than a 1.0. NO EXCEPTIONS.
 
 
The paper will be due 4 March 2004 and the oral presentations will begin the next week. The order of presentation will be determined by a drawing.

You must have a minimum of three separate visual aids.  These visual aids must be large enough to be seen from the back row of the classroom. A Powerpoint or similar presentation will satisfy this requirement.

You must write a minimum of 10 questions about your presentation and make copies to be distributed to the class. These questions will be used in making the final.


CRITERIA FOR GRADING PRESENTATION

Presentation will be awarded ten points based on the following criteria:

Is the presentation presented in a logical manner? 4 points
Proper grammar and language appropriate for college level 3 points
Does the presentation give a clear picture of the organisms 3 points


Ten Points means you have fulfilled the basic criteria with sophistication, complexity and creativity.

Eight Points means you have fulfilled the basic criteria with some measure of sophistication.

Six Points means you have fulfilled the criteria in the most basic way.

Four Points means you have not met the all the basic criteria.

Two Points means you have not met most of the basic criteria


Your presentation must be 10 minutes in length.

Presentations shorter than 10 minutes will lose points according to the following criteria:


9 minutes minus 1 point

8 minutes minus 2 points

7 minutes minus 3 points

6 minutes minus 4 points

5 minutes minus 5 points

4 minutes
or less minus 10 points

YOU WILL ALSO LOSE POINTS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE VISUAL AIDS OR IF THEY ARE NOT LARGE ENOUGH FOR THE CLASS TO SEE.  POINTS WILL ALSO BE LOST IF YOU PASS THINGS AROUND THE CLASS DURING YOUR PRESENTION INSTEAD OF HAVING VISUAL AIDS.
 
 
YOU WILL LOSE 7 POINTS FOR NOT HAVING VISUAL AIDS.
 
YOU WILL LOSE 5 POINTS IF YOUR VISUAL AIDS ARE TO SMALL TO BE SEEN FROM THE BACK OF THE CLASS ROOM.
 
YOU WILL LOSE 8 POINTS IF YOU PASS YOUR VISUAL AIDS AROUND THE CLASSROOM DURING YOUR PRESENTATION.
YOU MAY PASS THEM AROUND AFTER YOUR PRESENTATION IF YOU WISH.
 
YOU WILL LOSE 3 POINTS FOR ONLY HAVING TWO VISUAL AIDS
 
YOU WILL LOSE 6 POINTS FOR ONLY HAVING ONE VISUAL AID
 
YOU WILL LOSE 9 POINTS FOR NOT HAVING ANY VISUAL AIDS
 
IF YOU PUT YOUR PICTURES ON ONE POSTERBOARD OR OTHER METHOD OF PRESENTATION THAT WILL COUNT AS ONE VISUAL AID.
